Who Can Avail Of Pell Grants?

It goes without saying that college education is getting costlier by the day. Most colleges have exorbitant tuition fees and then to top it off, there are several other expenses while you are in the college. Many of us just cannot afford to pay the entire sum ourselves yet, you can’t neglect education.

What is the solution then? It’s sort of a catch 22 situation however, there are scholarships to help you out. There are private scholarships and there are federal pell grants. Although they might not help you pay the entire sum, they will ease the pressure a little bit. Pell grants have several advantages over private scholarship; the best one, in my opinion, is that you don’t have to pay the sum back.

If you wish to apply for pell grant, you would be pleased to know that the process is easy and can completed in a few steps. Those who can surf the Internet can complete the FAFSA form online and thus make an application on the Internet itself. That makes it very convenient.

What about the mandatory requirements? There are not many, to be honest, and whatever little there are can easily be satisfied. One of the major factors that the authorities take into account is something known as the EFC. EFC stands for Expected Family Contribution and it is easy to understand what it means.

In case you have a well to do family and you are going to sponsor much of the education yourself, the chances of getting pell grants are minimal. In case your family is unable to pay a large sum (you family’s annual income has to be less than twenty thousand dollars), you will, generally, get more to apply for a pell grant. They also take into account how good a student you are, the education you are looking at among other factors.
